This study is motivated by the Khataman (completion of the recitation) of the Qur’an performed by women in Panyabungan II Urban Village, Mandailing Natal Regency, prior to the burial of the deceased. This tradition has been passed down through generations by dividing the recitation of the Qur’an’s thirty *juz* (parts) among participants until the entire text is completed. The study aims to examine the implementation of this Khataman tradition for the deceased and to analyze its significance from the perspective of the "Living Qur’an." It employs a field research method with a qualitative descriptive approach, gathering data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the *Khataman* tradition holds both spiritual and social significance: it serves as an act of respect and a prayer for the deceased, a means to draw closer to Allah SWT, a way to strengthen faith, and a reminder to the community about life and death. Furthermore, the tradition fosters social ties, solidarity, mutual care, and the spirit of communal cooperation. From the perspective of the Living Qur’an, this tradition demonstrates that the Qur’an is not merely read as a sacred text but is also brought to life through religious practices within the community.
