This study aims to: (1) analyze the implementation of the tradition of reciting Surah Al-Baqarah (2:153–157) from the perspective of the "Living Qur’an" in Sihepeng Village, and (2) examine the impact of this tradition on the community's life. The study employs a field research method with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through direct observation at the research site and interviews with religious figures, bereaved families, and local residents, and were supplemented by documentation. Furthermore, the research draws upon various literature sources—such as exegesis texts, scientific journals, and academic works—relevant to the study of the Living Qur’an. The collected data were analyzed using the Living Qur’an framework to understand how the Qur’an is comprehended, responded to, and practiced within the community's social life. From the Living Qur’an perspective, the tradition of reciting Surah Al-Baqarah (2:153–157) represents a form of functional reception of the Qur’an by the community; here, the verses are not merely understood as text to be read but are also integrated into social and cultural practices. In this context, the Qur’an serves as a source of living values that imbues the event of death with meaning, while also functioning as part of the religious system practiced by the community in their daily lives. The impact of this tradition is evident in two primary aspects: the spiritual and the social. Spiritually, the tradition fosters patience, sincerity, and reliance on God (*tawakkul*) when facing adversity, while also providing inner peace and strengthening the faith of the bereaved family. Socially, the tradition contributes to strengthening solidarity, care, and a sense of togetherness among residents through community involvement in the funeral procession. Thus, this tradition demonstrates that the Qur’an is not merely understood as a sacred text but is also brought to life within the social reality of the Sihepeng Village community through the practice of the Living Qur’an.
